If your Swift Saw isn’t cutting smoothly, don’t worry. Most issues are easy to fix. Try the tips below.

The saw stalls while cutting cardboard

If the saw stops while you’re cutting, you may be pushing the cardboard through too quickly.

Tip: Like a scroll saw or table saw in a woodshop, a steady, gentle feed works best.

  • Try a different type of cardboard. Use the Material Thickness Gauge to help identify thin cardboard.
  • Make sure tape or decals have been removed. The adhesive can make the cutting head sticky.
  • Slow down and let the blade do the work.
  • The Swift Saw has a built-in Auto-Stop safety circuit that stops the motor to protect it if too much pressure is applied.
  • Turn the saw off and on. The safety circuit will reactivate cutting once it is safe to begin operation.
  • The safety circuit may require up to 30 seconds to reset and allow operation to continue.
The saw is jammed

Small cardboard pieces can sometimes build up around the cutting head. Here are two easy ways to clear a jam.

Option 1: Clear debris with air

  • Make sure the saw is turned off and unplugged.
  • Empty the debris tray.
  • Locate the small hole in the metal cut plate.
  • Use canned air to blow cardboard debris out from below the cutting head.
  • You can also use the small hole in the protective cutting head to blow air directly into the cutting area.

Option 2: Clear debris manually

  • Make sure the saw is turned off and unplugged.
  • Use fingers to lift the protective cutting head up and down. This can help loosen jammed material. Try turning the saw back on.
  • If still not cleared, find and straighten a paper clip.
  • Gently insert the paperclip into the hole in the protective cutting head.
  • Slowly push the debris down and away from the front edge of the cutting head.
  • You may lift and extend the protective cutting head slightly to better see and remove the blockage.

Swift sees high engagement across multiple grade levels, from upper elementary through middle school. Activities can be quickly scaled in complexity depending on student age and learning goals.

Yes. Swift is kid‑safe by design with NO exposed blades. The cutter head cannot be lifted high enough to place fingers underneath and the cutter head automatically returns to a safe position. A built‑in cardboard thickness measurement zone helps prevent misuse

Swift is optimized for cardboard. You can use your own cardboard or Swift cardboard packs. Make sure the cardboard is free of tape and stickers as this can interfere with cutting.
